The 2022 ranking is based on 4,221 opinions of people surveyed between January and December in the United States. Brands included in the final ranking were nationally recognized by people familiar with retail furniture store brands. Brands that were most recognized in the 2022 study included Ethan Allen, Williams-Sonoma, La-Z-Boy furniture, Restoration Hardware, Crate & Barrel, Ashley Furniture, and IKEA. To be considered, brands needed to receive enough survey responses to achieve a 95% confidence level with no more than a 3% margin of error.

People taking the survey are asked their opinions of trust, quality, word-of-mouth, the likelihood of recommending to others, and several other brand equity questions. The data collected across more than 500 brands provides keen insight into how trust plays a role in people's impressions of the most popular brands in the marketplace.
Trust is measured with the Lifestory Research Net Trust Quotient Score, in which consumers evaluate each retail furniture store brand.
